 Regular Meeting May 15, 2008

Rod Miranda reported on the museum visit by the kindergarten and first grade students from the Rocky Point Charter School. The kids were great. Rod gave each of the kids an Indian necklace, plus one for their favorite teacher, John Goodner was present to help if needed. Our new building is on schedule to be completed in time to display our historical farm equipment for Old Millville Day, and it will be dedicated to Harryette Chatham and Bud Farrell. Preparations for Old Millville Day are moving right along, and it should all be completed before June 28.

Regular Meeting June 19, 2008

President Rod Miranda reported on the chain-link front for the new building. He will purchase the chain link for about $350, and members will build it. Ellie Hagstrom reported on the May 31 Whitmore booth; she sold $180 worth of books. The Masonic Hall appears to have been sold, and is in escrow at this time. Money that was contributed for its purchase will be refunded as soon as escrow closes.

Regular Meeting July 17, 2008

Eastern Star donated many items to the society, including a piano, antique cupboards, a glass display case, a large antique table, and many beautiful framed pictures. The thresher donated by the Reineke/Taylor families has been installed in our new building by the Doelker family. We will decide on a date for the building dedication at our next meeting.

Regular Meeting August 21, 2008

We discussed publishing a cookbook for a fund raiser, and it was decided that we can do the work ourselves, allowing us to determine just what goes into the book, saving considerable expense. The dedication for the new building will be October 18th at 11 a.m. We will have a barbecue, including hamburgers, potato salad, and beans. Flora is mailing out the checks returning money contributed for purchase of the Masonic Hall.

Regular Meeting September 19, 2008

The museum has been rearranged, pictures hung, and everything looks positively wonderful! We worked on planning for the dedication on October 18th, which promises to be a big success. Rod Miranda has applied for a U.S. Postal Service stamp honoring Ishi. We are still working on a cookbook, so send your recipes if you are interested.

Regular Meeting October 16, 2008

Last-minute plans for the dedication were completed. The sign has been installed, and we will have a barbecue, including hamburgers, potato salad, beans, and Flora's pies with ice cream! Rod's request for a stamp honoring Ishi has been refused, as "there have already been several stamps honoring native Americans."

Building Dedication October 18, 2008

We had a wonderful barbecue, with more than enough great food, along with about a dozen kinds of pies provided by Flora Pearson. Les Baugh was our featured speaker, and he did a fine job of memorializing Harryette Chatham and Bud Farrell. Family members added their accounts about them, and made the event really enjoyable.

Regular Meeting January 15, 2009

With fourteen enthusiastic attendees, the meeting got the year off to a great start. Plans were made to re-hang the sign on our new building, and to purchase a new color laser copier at a very good price from Costco. A new 50 cup coffee maker has been purchased so we won't need to borrow one for our events. Plans go forward for our cookbook, so send in your family recipes. There are now 34 volunteers watching local historical sites. A field trip to the Fall River museum is planned for next May, and John Bradford has graciously volunteered to photograph historic sites for the society.

Regular Meeting February 19, 2009

The meeting was attended by sixteen this month, and was productive as usual, with Ruth Higgens reporting that the cookbook is coming along well, though we still need more pictures and recipes. Glen Campbell donated his lock-box full of wartime mementos to our museum, and work on the building was scheduled as soon as the weather cooperates. A trip to Phillips Mill is scheduled for April 18, with a cost of $5.00. Another field trip, to the Fall River museum will take place on May 9th. Lunch will be served, so we will need a head-count in advance.

Regular Meeting March 19, 2009

Dottie Smith announced that the April 18th trip trip Phillips Mill will cost $10.00 instead of the $5.00 announced last month. A work day is planned in the near future to do some maintenance and to hang the sign in its proper place on our new building. Don't forget -the trip to Fall River Fort Crook Museum is coming up on May 9th and we need a head count, so if you want to go contact Flora Pearson RIGHT AWAY. A total of seventeen were in attendance at this meeting, so it looks like we are growing. One good reason may be the wonderful refreshments served -usually by Flora. This month she baked some delicious lemon pies!
